Rothenburg ob der Tauber – fairytale town
The medieval town of Rothenburg is a world-famous attraction. No matter what time of the year you visit Rothenburg, the small town in Middle Franconia with its intricate alleyways, towers and half-timbered houses looks like something out of a fairy tale book. Many visitors want a photo of the “Plönlein”, the city’s most famous landmark. Plönlein means “small square at the fountain”, the ensemble of the Plönlein includes the fountain in front of a half-timbered solitaire and the two towers of the old city wall, which rise up to the left and right.
Our tip: No matter what time of the year, please visit Kaethe Wohlfahrt’s Christmas Village. At the shop in Herrengasse, magical Christmas decorations are presented all year round. The overwhelming selection of Christmas decoration is very impressive!
Dresden – The Florence on the river Elbe
Romantic landscape, baroque architecture and the historic old town ensemble of Frauenkirche, Semperoper, Zwinger, Green Vault, Goldener Reiter, along the Elbe Valley are just a few of the many sights in Dresden. The Elbe metropolis of Dresden is famous for this old town with many historical buildings, monuments, musical highlihts and museums.
Our tip: Visit the Dresden Christmas market in the run-up to Christmas, or a local bakery and try the original Dresdner Stollen. A real treat!
Berlin – Germany’s capital
Without a doubt, the Brandenburg Gate is the landmark of the city and a symbol of dividing and reunifying Germany. Completed in 1791, it was just one of many old city gates around Berlin, which was still manageable at the time. A decorative square was laid out in front of the gate – the Pariser Platz – where many of the city’s important buildings such as the historic Hotel Adlon, the house of parliament, or the Academy of Arts are still located.
Our tip: Try an original Berlin currywurst.
Munich – Bavarian state capital
Munich’s city center with the Frauenkirche, Marienplatz and the Old Town Hall, the Olympic Park, or the art area with world-famous museums, the English Garden are just a few of Munich’s well-known sights. Magnificent buildings and architectural highlights can be admired as well as the Nymphenburg Palace.
Our tip: In addition to a visit to the Hofbräuhaus, a visit to the Viktualienmarkt in the heart of Munich’s old town is worthwhile! Originally, the Viktualienmarkt was a farmer’s and herb market. Today it is a sought-after place for connoisseurs, gourmets, and visitors. You can find traditional Bavarian goods made after traditional recipes.
Hamburg – maritime charm
For many foreigners as well as Germans, Hamburg is by far the most appealing city in the country. The impressive port, the historic warehouse district, the famous Reeperbahn, musicals, the Elbphilharmonie and many other places attract tourists from all over the world. Strolling along the inner and outer Alster along the Elb-chausse- all this is possible in Hamburg. A colorful range of culture and music can be experienced.
