GREAT COMPOSERS OF GERMANY: BACH, WAGNER & HÄNDEL
Day 1: Berlin
Arrival in Berlin. Visit the capital of Germany and experience its cultural life. With three world-famous opera houses, eight major symphony orchestras and about 150 theaters and stages, Berlin attracts music lovers from all over the world.
Day 2: Berlin - Leipzig
Continue your journey to Leipzig to visit the birthplace of Richard Wagner, the statue of J.S. Bach and the church of St. Thomas, where Bach was director of music, and where Wagner was baptized. Visit the Museum of Musical Instruments which is one of the largest in the world. In the evening you may attend a concert at the famous Gewandhaus or at the Thomaskirche/St. Thomas Church. Since 1212, St. Thomas Church has been home to the St. Thomas Boys' Choir - one of the most renowned boys' choirs in Germany.
Day 3: Leipzig - Dresden
Discover the Bach Museum in Leipzig where the life and work of the great baroque composer with his original manuscripts becomes alive.
Continue to the Mendelssohn Haus, a museum in honor of the great German composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Afterwards travel to Dresden. Visit the Frauenkirche Dresden (Church of Our Lady). Worldwide famous singers, orchestras and instrumental ensembles shape the music programme and and make the concerts highlights of the German music scene.
Day 4: Dresden
Both Richard Wagner and J.S. Bach left their mark in Dresden. Discover the musical spirit of Dresden and go on a tour of discovery to learn about these two great German composers. In the afternoon you are invited to enjoy a guided tour of the famous Semperoper Dresden (Semper Opera House), which is the most famous opera house in Germany. In the evening you may want to to experience a top-class opera, ballet or concert performance.
Day 5: Dresden - Bayreuth
Travel to Bayreuth to follow the footsteps of Richard Wagner. Visit the Bayreuther Festspielhaus, a theater created for Richard Wagner. Unique in architecture and acoustics, attracts The Bayreuth Festival with Wagner's operas visitors from all over the world.
Day 6: Bayreuth - Weimar - Eisenach
On the way to Eisenach, stop in Weimar, where Bach was working as a chapel master in the early days. In Eisenach discover the famous Wartburg Castle which was a source of inspiration for Richard Wagner of the opera "Tannhäuser". Wartburg Castle has also been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage due to its outstanding monument of the feudal epoch in Central Europe.
Day 7: Eisenach - Halle - Berlin
Travel to the city of Halle, which is closely associated to the Baroque composer Georg Friedrich Händel. Visit the Händel-Haus Museum to learn about the life of Georg Friedrich Händel. Return to Berlin.
