GERMANY’S EASTERN HIGHLIGHTS
Day 1: Berlin - Dresden
This morning you start your tour with a drive from Berlin to Dresden. Dresden is one of the most charming cities in Central Europe. Dresden is often referred to as “The Florence of the Elbe”, due to its many gorgeous architectonic monuments and its location along the Elbe river. Enjoy a walk along the Elbe river and see the restored Frauenkirche, the famous Dresden's Semper Opera House and the Dresden Zwinger.
Day 2: Dresden - Saxon Switzerland - Dresden
Saxon Switzerland, located southeast of Dresden, is Germany’s only rock National Park and features exotic sandstone formations. Go on a steamboat road ride on the Elbe River to the Pillnitz Caslte. Get inspired by Pillnitz Castle, an extraordinary ensemble of architecture directly on the banks of the Elbe River. Later continue by car to the “Bastion”, the symbol of Saxon Switzerland. The Bastei in Saxon Switzerland is one of the most famous rock formations in the entire region. The Bastei (305 m) offers a viewing platform with impressive views of the landscape, the Elbe River and the Bastion Bridge. This sandstone bridge, constructed in 1851, crosses a 40 meter deep gorge. With all impressions collected return to Dresden in the afternoon.
Day 3: Dresden - Meissen - Weimar
In the morning travel to Weimar. Along the way visit Moritzburg Castle. Nestled in a romantic landscape of lakes and forests, this baroque castle served as the movie set for “Three Wishes for Cinderella”. Continue to Meissen, the oldest porcelain manufactory in Europe. Visit the city’s historic center and tour its main attraction: the Meissen porcelain factory. Afterwards travel to Weimar, the home town of famous historic figures such as Goethe, Schiller, Bach and Liszt.
Day 4: Weimar - Eisenach - Erfurt - Weimar
Today travel to Eisenach and explore the impressive castle of Wartburg, where Luther translated the New Testament into German. Then continue to Erfurt, also known as “Thuringian Rome“ because of its architectural beauty. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city and visit the Augustine monastery and the Krämerbrücke, the longest series of inhabited buildings on any bridge in Europe. Return to Weimar.
Day 5: Weimar - Leipzig - Berlin
Travel to Berlin. On the way to Berlin visit Leipzig and enjoy a sightseeing tour. For several centuries Leipzig was the economic and spiritual center of Europe. Continue to Berlin, where your tour ends.
