Day 1: Zurich - Meiringen

Welcome to Switzerland! Begin your alpine hiking adventure with a scenic journey by public transport from Zurich to Meiringen, a charming village in the Bernese Oberland surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery and waterfalls. Nestled in the Haslital valley, Meiringen offers a peaceful introduction to the Swiss Alps and is the perfect starting point for your Via Alpina trek. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax, explore the village, or prepare for the hiking days ahead.

Depending on your arrival time, this day program can be adjusted to your specific needs and wishes. Additional nights in Zurich or Meiringen can also be added.

Day 2: Meringen - Grindelwald

Distance: 15 km, Ascent: 615 m, Descent: 920 m, Duration: approx. 4h 30min

After a short transfer by bus to Rosenlaui (not included), your hike begins through one of the most beautiful and unspoiled alpine regions of Switzerland. Follow scenic trails through lush valleys and pristine mountain landscapes to Schwarzwaldalp, a hidden alpine gem surrounded by towering peaks and traditional mountain scenery. Continue your ascent to Grosse Scheidegg, where you are rewarded with a breathtaking panorama of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau – three of the most iconic mountains in the Swiss Alps. From here, descend through alpine meadows and forested slopes towards the famous mountain village of Grindelwald, where your day’s journey concludes.

Day 3: Grindelwald - Wengen

Distance: 16 km, Ascent: 1,095 m, Descent: 856 m, Duration: 5h 30min

Today’s stage begins with spectacular views of the mighty Eiger North Face. The trail leads you upward towards Kleine Scheidegg, surrounded by some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in Switzerland. From here, continue along scenic alpine paths with breathtaking views at every step, before descending towards the charming car-free village of Wengen. Set high above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, Wengen offers an unforgettable setting with sweeping views of waterfalls, cliffs and glacier-carved landscapes.

Day 4: Wengen - Pochtenalp or Griesalp

Distance: 17 km, Ascent: 995 m, Descent: 1,225 m, Duration: 6h 30min

After a scenic train ride to Lauterbrunnen (not included), continue by cable car and mountain railway to Mürren, a spectacular cliffside village overlooking the valley. From here, your hike begins through alpine pastures and dramatic mountain scenery towards Spielbodenalp and Rotstockhütte. After a short break, ascend to the Sefinenfurgge Pass, one of the most impressive high mountain crossings in the region. The reward is a dramatic descent into untouched alpine wilderness, finishing in either Pochtenalp or Griesalp, surrounded by raw natural beauty and silence.

Day 5: Pochtenalp or Griesalp - Kandersteg

Distance: 17 km, Ascent: 1,475 m, Descent: 1,715 m, Duration: 7h

Today you experience the highlight of the trek – the ascent to the Hohtürli Pass at 2,778 metres. This demanding yet rewarding stage takes you through spectacular alpine terrain with ever-expanding views of glaciers and mountain peaks. At Blüemlisalphütte, enjoy a well-earned break and take in unforgettable mountain scenery before continuing across the pass. Descend along glacial moraines towards the turquoise waters of Oeschinensee, one of Switzerland’s most beautiful alpine lakes. From here, continue on foot or take the cable car (optional) down to Kandersteg.

Day 6: Kandersteg - Adelboden

Distance: 13 km, Ascent: 975 m, Descent: 1,460 m, Duration: 5h 30min

Take the cable car to Allmenalp (not included) and begin your hike towards Bunderspitz. Along the way, enjoy sweeping panoramic views across the Bernese Alps and surrounding valleys. After reaching the ridge, descend through alpine landscapes towards Adelboden, a traditional mountain village known for its waterfalls, meadows and spectacular alpine scenery.

Day 7: Adelboden - Lenk

Distance: 14 km, Ascent: 650 m, Descent: 930 m, Duration: 4h

Today’s stage offers a gentler yet equally beautiful hike through forests, moorlands and alpine ridges. Ascend along the Glisbach valley towards the Hahnenmoos Pass, where wide-open views of the surrounding mountains await. Descend into the scenic Simmental valley towards Lenk, a charming alpine village surrounded by waterfalls and framed by the impressive Wildstrubel massif.

Day 8: Lenk - Zurich

After breakfast, travel by public transport from Lenk through Switzerland’s stunning alpine landscapes back to Zurich, where your unforgettable Via Alpina trekking adventure concludes.

Depending on your onward travel plans, additional nights or extensions in Zurich or other Swiss destinations can also be arranged.
